Previously little known in the West, Surakarta was introduced in France in the 1970s and has since gained popularity around the world. Its history and origins are shrouded in mystery, but its unique gameplay and strategic depth make it an unforgettable gaming experience.

Application / Instructions

Rules for Surakarta:

Goal of the game:

The game is played between two players. Each player chooses 12 pieces of their color and places them on the black or white points of the board, depending on which side they are on. The goal is to capture all of the opponent's pieces.

Starting lineup:
Each player’s 12 pieces are placed on the outer lines of the game board at the beginning of the game.

Movement of the stones:
On each turn, a player may move one of his checkers in any direction, including diagonally, without performing a capture. If a move results in a capture, the player must pass through a circular path. After that, he may choose an entry and exit path of variable length, as long as there are no friendly or opponent's checkers in the path. The captured opponent's checker is placed next to the capturing checker, and the opponent's checker is removed from the board.

Detection of stones:
Capturing stones is only possible after passing through a circular path. During a capture, the stone moves along a line through several free squares, including at least one of the circular arcs, until it encounters an opponent's stone, which is then removed.

End of the game:
The game ends when one player has captured all of the opponent's pieces. The player who has no pieces left is considered the loser.

Determination of the winner:
To determine the final result, the opponent's captured stones are added to the remaining stones in the game.
