Product description:
The Pró-Fono lip trainer was developed to help with the speech therapy treatment of the orofacial muscles by increasing tonicity and lengthening the orbicularis mouth muscles, both upper and lower, both marginal (lip vermis) and peripheral. The plastic plates are placed in the vestibule. The plate with the notch allows good adaptation to the upper lip frenulum. By pressing the lips together, the orbicularis oris muscle (pars marginalis and pars labialis) is strengthened. It also helps to stretch a shortened upper lip. This exercise is suitable for disorders such as mouth breathers, open bite, swallowing dysfunction and habits.

Indications:
Recommended as an aid in the speech therapy treatment of the orofacial muscles to increase tonicity and lengthen the orbicular mouth muscles, both upper and lower, both marginal (lip) and peripheral.
These symptoms are commonly found in mouth breathers, carriers of harmful oral habits, atypical or adapted swallowing, anterior open bite and others who are shortened upper lip, outwardly turned lips, hypofunctioning lips with frequent exposure of their vestibular moist area and hypotonic.
Application:
Place the plastic bases on the lips, with the fold of the upper base in the upper lip vestibulum and the fold of the lower base in the lower lip vestibulum. The stainless steel rods remain outside the mouth, out of contact with the teeth.
The user opens and closes the mouth by applying pressure with both lips and tries to completely occlude the two bases, making the lip exercise through lip occlusion and the opening caused passively by the spring effect.
Recommended exercises:
1. Slowly open and close the mouth (lips and jaw), pressing the lips for complete closure of the Pró-Fono lip trainer.
2. Slowly open and close only the lips (with the teeth closed), pressing the lips for complete closure of the Pró-Fono lip trainer.
3. Open your mouth and, while closing, keep your lips tightly closed (using dental occlusion), occlude the Pró-Fono lip trainer for about 30 seconds.
Note 1:Exercise 2 is a variation that increases the level of difficulty and training of the muscles involved and should only be practiced once exercises 1 and 3 have been mastered.
Note 2:The duration of use or frequency of exercises should vary according to rehabilitation needs and user tolerance and should not cause severe pain or discomfort.
Precautions:
Lip occlusion should be along the horizontal midline of dental occlusion, avoiding deviations from the midline when opening and closing the mouth, as well as greater pressure of one lip over the other or hypertonicity of the mentalis muscle to compensate for the effort of the peripheral orbicular muscles of the mouth, especially the upper one.
This recommendation is particularly interesting for shortened upper lips.
Be careful not to apply excessive pressure to the dental occlusion when closing the lips to avoid overloading the temporomandibular joint.
The speech therapist should teach and supervise the patient in the correct use of the Pró-Fono lip trainer device. The exercises can be performed at home once the patient has mastered the correct execution.
